Exam Pattern and Syllabus.

This usually needs a year-long dedicated preparation to qualify for the examination. 3 stages in the exam are Prelims, Mains, and Interviews. Candidates who qualified the Prelims will be eligible for the main written examination. And the candidates who score well in the mains will appear for an interview.

There will be two papers in the prelim exam. In which general studies paper 1 is competitive and CSAT also known as GS 2 is qualifying in nature.

And there will be total 9 papers in the IAS mains written exam. Out of which, 2 papers are qualifying in nature and others are competitive.

It might be interesting to know that interview is a part of the main exam. That means if the candidate scores well in the written, and for some reason not performed well in the interview, he’ll qualify or even can top the exam like 2019 IAS topper Pradeep Singh.
